THE WORLD'S LIGHTEST METAL
Matthew 11:29-30
"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
HRL Laboratories, owned by Boeing, startled the world years ago when they unveiled the lightest metal ever produced. More recently they're in the news again after Boeing released a video talking about what Popular Mechanics called one of the top 10 world-changing innovations of 2012.
I'm talking about microlattice – a metal that is so light, fluffy white dandelion seeds can hold it up. According to Popular Mechanics, the metal is a hundred times lighter than styrofoam packing peanuts and could be useful for medical applications and in the automotive and aerospace industries.
What makes this metal so light is answered in the Boeing video. HRL Laboratories' Sophia Yang compares microlattice to the basic composition of bones. While the outer structure of our bones is rigid and solid, the interior is filled with thin, lattice-like tissue. The outer walls of microlattice are only about one-one thousandth the width of a human hair.
As one news website correctly points out, "Bones are both strong and light due to this composition, and microlattice works on the same basic principle. It is made up of 99.99 percent air, so it's extremely light, but it has remarkable compression properties."
We have posted a link to Boeing's video at the Creation Moments website. Just search for "world's lightest metal." It's a good video, but we would have liked it even more if Boeing had given credit to our Creator for designing the bones that inspired HRL Laboratories to design the world's lightest metal!
Heavenly Father, though evolutionists say that the designs we see in nature only appear to have been designed, I pray that more and more people will come to see how foolish such a statement really is. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

DID OUR FACES EVOLVE FOR BEING PUNCHED?
Genesis 6:11
"The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence."
On our previous Creation Moments broadcast, we told you about researchers who are claiming that our hands evolved so that they can be formed into fists for fighting. Now that same group of researchers is also telling us that our faces evolved to withstand being punched.
This idea represents a big departure from the long-held theory that human faces look the way they do because our ancestors spent much of their time chewing nuts and other hard foods. The lead author of the study writes, "The australopiths were characterized by a suite of traits that may have improved fighting ability, including hand proportions that allow formation of a fist." He adds, "If indeed the evolution of our hand proportions were associated with selection for fighting behavior, you might expect the primary target, the face, to have undergone evolution to better protect it from injury when punched."
A member of the research team added: "Our research is about peace. We seek to explore, understand, and confront humankind's violent and aggressive tendencies. Through our research we hope to look ourselves in the mirror and begin the difficult work of changing ourselves for the better."
Good luck with that! If history has taught us anything, it's that mankind – starting with Cain – has had a violent streak and, if anything, we are getting worse. Only God can take such violence out of our hearts when we turn to Christ for the forgiveness of sins.
Heavenly Father, I pray that Your Holy Spirit will help me control my temper. May my actions always be a silent testimony to the new creature in Christ You have made me to be! In Jesus' Name. Amen.

DID OUR HANDS EVOLVE FOR FIGHTING?
Genesis 4:8
"And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him."
Today on Creation Moments we bring you a rather bizarre story. Its seems that scientists used the arms and hands of corpses in an attempt to show that human hands evolved for fighting. True story. In fact, it was reported in the Journal of Experimental Biology.
The scientists did this to see if a clenched fist is more effective at protecting the metacarpal bones of human hands when we punch something … or someone. Not surprisingly, they found that humans can safely strike with 55 percent more force with a clenched fist rather than slapping someone with the thumb extended and loosely folded fingers.
This is pretty obvious when you think about it. What's not so obvious is how the researchers concluded that evolution had anything to do with it. All they could really conclude is that even the earliest of men had a violent streak.
This should not surprise to us at all because the Bible tells us that Adam and Eve's son Cain struck his brother and killed him … and there is no record of him breaking his metacarpals. Obviously, we have always had the innate tendency to clench our fists for fighting. And as history has taught us, we've done that way too often.
While the fall of Adam is responsible for man's violent streak, Jesus Christ teaches us to love all men, even our enemies. Rather than forming our hands into fists, let us use them to do good unto believers and unbelievers alike.
Heavenly Father, whenever I feel anger rising up inside me, remind me that You want me to love my enemies. In Jesus' strength, I know I can do that! Amen.

DO LEMMINGS COMMIT SUICIDE?
Genesis 9:1
"And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth."
True or false? When the population of lemmings grows too large, they get into a frenzied state, and huge groups of the furry rodents commit suicide by hurling themselves into the nearest body of water.
Many people believe this is true, but it is really nothing but a, well, rural legend that might have got its start from a news report that came out of Norway in 1868. A steamer there reportedly sailed for 15 minutes through a swarm of swimming and drowning lemmings. According to the report, the swarm was two-to-three miles wide.
Actually, lemmings really do throw themselves into the water – but not to commit suicide. They are simply migrating after depleting food supplies in their area. During a mass migration, many lemmings do, in fact, die from drowning. But more lemmings are eaten by predators.
Today there is another overpopulation legend that far too many people are believing. It's the notion that mankind is overpopulating the planet. Some environmentalists have called for reduction of world population to just two billion – a reduction of over two-thirds of the world population. Others would like to see only a half billion people on our planet. And many think it's permissible to kill humans in large numbers to avoid running out of food and other vital resources.
No, overpopulation is not the problem. The real problem is that man, in his pride, thinks he knows more than God knows about what is best for the planet that He created.
Heavenly Father, many environmentalists today stand in opposition to Your clear command to be fruitful and multiply. I pray that You will show them that Your ways are always the best! In Jesus' Name. Amen.

CREATION ADVENTURES NEAR YOU
Proverbs 8:32-33
"Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not."
Are you hungry to learn more about God's magnificent creation and teach your family what they need to know to defend the faith from the pseudoscience of evolution? Of course, the Creation Moments website is a great place to start.
But there are other ways to learn about biblical creation – including outstanding books and DVDs on the six days of creation, the worldwide flood and so much more. Another great way is to visit the big Creation Museum near Cincinnati. But what if a trip there can't be worked into your family's vacation plans? You can visit one of the many other creation museums scattered all across the United States and in other countries around the globe.
So how do you find out where these museums are located and what each one has to offer? The Creation Science Alliance – of which Creation Moments is a member – is a network of creation ministries and museums around the world, and they have put together the "Big Map of Creation" that makes it easy to find creation tours and museums near you. Simply point your web browser to VisitCreation.org to get started.
On this map, you are sure to find sound doctrine and dependable science at any location your family chooses to visit, and you'll see fossils and dinosaur bones up close. These smaller museums are also great because your family will receive personal attention from trained creation tour guides.
We highly recommend a creation museum tour for your next vacation.
Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing Your people with so many opportunities to learn about Your wonderful creation! In Jesus' Name. Amen.
