CREATION MOMENTS: 3.20.16

THE IMPLAUSIBILITY OF EVOLUTION

Deuteronomy 31:6

"Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."
If you're a long-time listener, you know that Creation Moments does not discuss politics. That's why today's program focuses not on Ben Carson's political involvements but on Dr. Carson's courage as a scientist and world-renowned surgeon for sharing his politically incorrect views on Darwinian evolution.

In his book, Take the Risk, Dr. Carson makes it crystal clear that he rejects Darwinian evolution. Here is a portion of what he wrote:

"For me, the plausibility of evolution is … strained by Darwin's assertion that within fifty to one hundred years of his time, scientists would become geologically sophisticated enough to find the fossil remains of the entire evolutionary tree in an unequivocal step-by-step progression of life from amoeba to man – including all of the intermediate species."

Dr. Carson continues: "Of course, that was 150 years ago, and there is still no such evidence. It's just not there. But when you bring that up to the proponents of Darwinism, the best explanation they can come up with is 'Well … uh … it's lost!' Here again I find it requires too much faith for me to believe that explanation, given all the fossils we have found without any fossilized evidence of the direct, step-by-step evolutionary progression from simple to complex organisms or from one species to another species. Shrugging and saying, 'Well, it was mysteriously lost, and we'll probably never find it,' doesn't seem like a particularly satisfying, objective, or scientific response."

Doctor Carson, we couldn't agree more!

Heavenly Father, thank You for scientists who take the risk of dissenting from Darwinism. I pray that You will embolden me to share the gospel and the truth of biblical creation with others. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

THE FISH WITH THREE LINES OF DEFENSE

Ephesians 6:11

"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."
To hear evolutionists tell it, millions of years of chance mutations, combined with natural selection, produced all manner of living creatures. Now, let's look at just one creature – the porcupinefish – and see how the theory of evolution works out in real life. If the theory fails the test, it's a strong indicator that the theory lacks the power to explain the existence of any living creature.

The porcupinefish is blessed with not one, not two, but three lines of defense. The first comes into play when a predator is near. The porcupinefish quickly swallows a large amount of water, practically doubling its size. This makes the fish too large for some predators to swallow.

The second line of defense comes into play as the fish transforms itself into a football-sized balloon covered with menacing barbs. Its scales stand on end, turning it into an aquatic version of the land-dwelling porcupine. The very sight of these sharp scales protruding in every direction scares off many predators.

The third line of defense for some porcupinefish species is the neurotoxin in their internal organs – a toxin that's at least twelve-hundred times more potent than cyanide. As Wikipedia points out, "As a result of these three defenses, porcupinefish have few predators."

Now, can evolutionists explain how this unique fish came to have these three lines of defense? No, they can't. Not even Darwin tried to explain it when he wrote about the porcupinefish in his book The Voyage of the Beagle.

Heavenly Father, thank You for not leaving me defenseless but for giving me everything I need to stand against the wiles of the devil. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

PRIMITIVE; ELECTRIC EEL NOT SO PRIMITIVE AFTER ALL

Revelation 4:11

"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."
Not long ago, we told you about the ingenious way that electric eels release strong electric current into the water to make fish thrash about and come out of hiding. That's a pretty cool trick from such a supposedly primitive creature.

Now scientists have discovered another shockingly sophisticated trick used by electric eels. As reported by Reuters, "Vanderbilt University neurobiologist Kenneth Catania said some have viewed electric eels as unsophisticated, primitive creatures with a single tool in the toolbox, shocking their prey to death." But he added, "In reality, they manipulate their electric fields in complex ways that only now are being appreciated."

Basically, electric eels brings their positive end – located in their head – close to the negative end in their tail. By trapping their prey between the positive and negative ends of their "battery", the eels are able to more than double the voltage inflicted on prey.

According to Catania, "We know from basic physics that bringing two electrical poles together concentrates the electric field, and we know from basic muscle physiology that running a muscle too fast for too long causes exhaustion. But I would never have imagined an electric eel could produce the same results."

Dr. Catania, do you know why you would never have imagined that? Because you believe – despite the evidence – that electric eels are primitive creatures produced by non-intelligent chance mutations. But creationists who study electric eels aren't shocked by their sophisticated abilities. We know they were created just one day before man.

Heavenly Father, the so-called "primitive" animals Your Son created give powerful testimony that they are not primitive at all. Indeed, they reveal how foolish evolution really is. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

DOES RELIGION MAKE CHILDREN SELFISH?

James 1:26

"If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain."
The evolutionists over at the ScienceDaily website must have been overjoyed to write this: "Many families believe religion plays an essential role in childhood moral development. But children of religious parents may not be as altruistic as those parents think, according to a new international study from the University of Chicago."

Creation Moments isn't surprised that university scientists are trying to show that religion actually harms children. After all, some evolutionists have also called the teaching of biblical creation "child abuse" and believe creationists should be put in prison.

Back to the study, a team of developmental psychologists studied 1,170 children ages five to twelve in six countries. They wanted to see how a child's religious upbringing affects their willingness to share and their inclination to judge and punish others for misbehaving.

"Our findings, said the research team leader, "contradict the common-sense and popular assumption that children from religious households are more altruistic and kind toward others. In our study, kids from atheist and non-religious families were, in fact, more generous."

Why is the study so misleading? For one thing, the children in the "religious" category consisted of Christians and Muslims. For another, were these Christians true Bible-believing Christians or simply cultural Christians? Furthermore, we must remember that Jesus condemned the religions of His day. Religion doesn't put anyone into a right relationship with God. Only a personal relationship with God through trusting in Christ can do that. Have you put your trust in Christ for the forgiveness of your sins?

Heavenly Father, I know that You hate manmade religion because it leads only to self-righteousness. Thank You for declaring me to be righteous in Your sight after I put my trust in Jesus. Amen.
